LEGO Creations
These are most of my MOCs (MOC = My Own Creation). They've all been displayed in public at one time or another, including BrickFair Virginia 2014-2019. I got into the hobby as an adult (AFOL = Adult Fan of LEGO) in 2012 after a couple decade hiatus (commonly known in the community as the dark ages).
Lady Liberty: Detailed 1:76 scale model of the Statue of Liberty, inspired by the Architecture set 21042. It stands over three foot tall, or just over 100cm.
This is a six-foot long modified version of set 60051, with dual-level passenger car, in a different color using custom decals I designed
Back to the Future Delorean time machine based on model 21103 and the Lybian terrorist van.
An extra large mobile crane in minifigure scale, based on one of the word's most powerful, the Liebherr LTM 11200.
Big minifigure-scale tower crane, similarly-functional to the real thing. It is perfectly balanced using three weighted bricks.
This is one of my earliest creations, a "lunar lifter" mobile space crane.
A train crane based on the classic set from the 1980s and inspired by the modern re-released set 7810 Push-Along Steam Engine.
This is a minifigure-scale version of set 5510, one of the first Model Team sets from 1986, to accompany (and inspired by) the Hot Rod minifig version 40409.
My first mini-figure scale car, this is a "hot-rodded" Hot Rod, a modified version of the car in set number 75875.
My first minifig-scale building, LegoLand Movie Theater, based on a real theater in Ashland, VA. Brickee winner for best lighted MOC and published on multiple websites including Brother's Brick cover photo choice.
The Waffle House: this art deco architectural creation is entirely based on the "waffle plate" from the 1960s. This is my second minifigure scale building, but first of my own design.
This is a townhouse using only pieces from three 31065 sets.
Emmet's Townhouse: clearly based on Emmet's dream house from LEGO Movie 2
My first Micropolis build. About 600 pieces. Using complex geometry.
Tim's Tools: the green building in the background, using a FabuLand shovel from the 1980s
Davis & Allemann: I thought the names on the printed tiles from the Ideas set 21315, Pop-up Book, sounded like a lawyer's office, so that's what this is.
A classic steam engine inspired by the Constitution Train Chase, but built in my own way, for an old Western-themed layout. Includes caboose using parts from the 1960s (windows) and today.
Another classic steam engine, but built entirely in red, including very rare parts never included in sets.
Cargo train engine heavily inspired by sets 60052 and the Maersk train, like combining the best, built for practicality and reliability.
A 3-1/2 foot train bridge built with 30 year old rare monorail track and brand new modern roller coaster track as trusses.
Massive train tunnel I built for the New Community Garden. It is over six-foot long and bigger/heavier than I am.
High-Flying UFO: This is a classic flying saucer on top of a five-foot tower of light, with a couple hundred LEDs controlled by phone. Brickee winner for best lighted MOC at BrickFair VA 2019.
A massive two-foot wide UFO. Another Brickee winner for best lighted MOC at BrickFair NC 2019.
Kevin's Spaceship: I built a flying saucer for Kevin Hinkle since he needed one, obviously.
Mayan Pyramid: my "High-Flying UFO" needed a new base, since I recycled the original for a new project, so I built this based on El Castillo, the Temple of Kukulcan in Mexico.
Crystal Pyramid: a simple design by repeating a single part, a 1x2 trans-clear sloping brick, there are 480 total. Includes color-changing light with remote control.
Classic Castle: My first castle; it is entirely built using only parts from the original castle sets from 1984 - 1990.
This is a co-creation from 2016, a scale model of Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. I did the landscaping and another member of RVA LUG did the conservatory.
An early creation from 2014, an excavator designed to be as realistic as possible for the scale and somewhat functional. It can spin 360 degrees. Arm, bucket, and tracks move.
Heavy Highway Hauler: a custom semi-truck with lowboy trailer, built in the style of LEGO set 7347. Has functional steering and opening doors.
Highway Rig 2: a modern redesign of the classic Model Team set Highway Rig (5580) released in 1986, which was the biggest of the 3 original sets in the Model Team series.
Redesigned, custom version of the Creator Beetle model 10252. A fun, technically challenging design. Uses rare dark azure pieces from three sets.
Custom VW T1 Pickup: This is a highly modified version of set 10220, which was originally a camper van. The first picture is the original version I built in 2012, which was taken apart, then rebuilt from scratch in a different way a few years later (second picture).
Custom 1950s Pickup: This is a modified version of set 10290. It was completely rebuilt to look mostly the same, but lowered as far as possible. The grill was made to look like a late 1940s, early 1950s Chevrolet truck.
Formula 1 Race Car. This is also one of my earliest creations from 2012. It has functional suspension and steering (the steering wheel turns the front wheels).
