Welcome

Welcome to my website. My name is Dennis and I live in Richmond, Virginia. This is where I share my work, art, photography, and more. I have used DRDesignz as a username online for well over a decade, but have not been the only one and 'DR' stands for my initials, not 'doctor'.

I developed a method to create a new form of string art where a single string is wrapped around all nails in a simple spiral, fractal, and/or toroidal geometric pattern, starting and ending (glued/tied) to a single nail. My book Mandala String Art is currently available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, and elsewhere. A gallery of most of my string art Mandalas can be seen here and some of these are for sale on Etsy. I also started a website: Mandala String Art dot com.

Templates with instructions for some Mandala String Art designs are available for sale here, so you can create your own without drawing the pattern yourself or having to figure out the path of the string.

This is my online store with apparel of some of my old art pieces, including a few that are the original Mandalas that later evolved into string art.

One of my many hobbies is LEGO, which is just as valid as an art medium as anything. Adult Fans of LEGO (AFOL) is a thing. In fact, it's a huge hobby and you should come join in on the fun. Everyone should at least attend a Lego convention. One of the best is BrickFair VA where over a thousand exhibitors from all over the US and even abroad go to show off their creations. I helped start and continue to help run RVA LUG (Richmond, VA Lego Users Group) the officially recognized AFOL hobby club of central Virginia. Everyone is welcome to join. Discover the child within and play, be creative and learn. There's something for everyone.

I'm also available for commission builds. This can be for any purpose, such as promotion of your business. I can build practically anything with time and a big enough budget. I'd be happy to take on any challenge.

I have been designing websites as a hobby and a minor side business since the early 2000s. I'm not very interested in it anymore, but if you throw enough money my way I could be persuaded. A lot of my work is no longer online. I was a member of a car club, RPM, Richmond Performance Musclecars in the early 2000s and took thousands of pictures. A relatively small gallery is here. I still enjoy fast cars and my current hobby car is a modified S10 pickup truck.
